Today I played the piano

Now, you’re probably what’s interesting about that. Yes Wendy, we know you play the piano. You play for a choir, you teach the piano, you accompany students for exams. Blah blah blah.

Today I actually played for myself. I pulled some music out of the cupboard that I used to play a lot. Classical music. And I read through it. I never do this anymore. It is a habit that became lost in the last few years. If I couldn’t sight read something I didn’t have time for it. It was only after the wonderful Miriam at Saskia’s asked if I would record some music for her that I “made” time today to play.

Here’s what I discovered though. I need to do some proper practice. Pieces that I could rip through without any trouble were a little bit less than wonderful. But I did record a few things. The recorder’s settings were a little out of whack so there’s some static.

Mendelssohn

Satie

And I have set myself some goals for the week with piano.

The Mendelssohn is beautiful. It is quite restful even though it is Confidence. Oh and the Bach followed straight on and I know that one!!! It is very nice to do something for yourself. There needs to be a new word, other than selfish which has negative connotations.

I’m very glad you enjoyed listening. There does need to be another word doesn’t there! What a great thought 🙂
