The west highland way

Our first day in fort William was a rainy one so after a slow morning we decided to catch the train from here to Mallaigh. This is the west highland way and it is beautifully scenic. We had hoped to get on the Jacobite express (the steam train from Harry potter) but it has finished for the season. Our train followed the same route and is has the same scenery. We saw snow on the top of Ben Nevis, lochs, mountains and the all important glen finnan viaduct. Sadly when we got to Mallaigh we were blasted by sleeting rain and wind. All in a day’s work for the Scots but we took shelter with all the other tourists in a tea shop…and then another tea shop and then half an hour before the train was due to return the sun came out so we could see the ships in the harbour. By the time we got home it was dark and wet so we were happy to get back to our cosy house and settle in for the night.
