We were up bright and early by Edinburgh standards and on the bus into town by just after 9am. We had organised to meet my aunt and uncle to go on the real Mary King’s Close tour which takes you into an underground warren of old streets and houses that had been built over in the mid 1700s. We got there at 10 but the first tour we could get on left at 11:45 so we had time to have coffee at st giles cathedral cafe around the corner as well as checking out the cathedral. I had a bacon roll which was delicious and no doubt very bad for me. The tour was excellent and fascinating. After that we continued wandering down the Royal Mile and found lunch in a tiny cafe that served big baked potatoes and very decent coffee. We then turned around and walked back up the hill in the direction of Grassmarket. On the way we saw the statue of grey friars bobby and I bought a cute beanie. The wind was whipping up today so although the sun was shining it was colder walking than on previous days. My dad and uncle decided they needed a whiskey so we ended up in a lovely pub where they downed a whiskey or two. Then it was back over the bridge to Princes Street where I finally made it in the Campers store to buy a pair of shoes. We had done as much walking as we could manage, so for less than the price of four bus fares we caught a cab home. A great day out!
