Watch, Listen and Singalong: Part 16: the other Elvis

This is a post that doesn’t mention TBL (well except for that once)

In my next life, if I am very very good, I am coming back as a back up harmony singer.

But this is the one album i actually own (iTunes not counted). I listened to it a lot when I was young and at uni studying music. Costello and the Brodsky quartet “The Juliet Letters”. He’s got quite a vocal range.

I have “The Juliet Letters,” but I stopped listening to it some years ago. (Not on political grounds, or anything.) I tend to default to either “Spike,” which I think is my fave, or to a best of album.

The one I love is the film clip for “Veronica”–he’s already doing a double vocal track on the song, and then in the film clip, he’s singing along with his own vocal track, and it’s all just complicated and lovely.

He does have an intriguing voice, but I love him best of all for the complexity of his lyrics, I think.

yes i hadn’t listened to any juliet letters for probably ten years until today. i love his voice and lyrics but for me it’s the melodic and harmonic shapes that are what I like the most.

I was lent a copy of “Out of Our Idiot” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Out_of_Our_Idiot by my brother in law when I was singing “Baby It’s You” in his band. He’s a huge Elvis fan. I keep meaning to get some more Elvis. I enjoyed their collaboration (Burt Bacharach) in “The Spy Who Shagged Me” as well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AK2ABpZ4F3s

Thank you, I did. I know a few of his songs: considering I usually like Frank and Dean and Doris I feel quite chuffed!!

well burt bacharach is a legend on his own…so adding elvis can only be a good thing. that version is awesome…showing again the great singing voice.

I’m like a kind of fan in training of elvis. i need to get more organised….
