to be an “accompaniste”

I’ve finally started going through the treasure trove of choir programs and newspaper articles that date back to 1977. I’m scanning them in preparation for my cultural heritage research project. So hurrah for me in making a start.

Today this caught my eye in a program from 1982. I wonder if I will ever graduate from being an “accompanist” to an “accompaniste”. Also, I wonder who decided that whacky spelling was a good idea?
