Today was a big driving day as we started out bright and early from Yorkshire and have finally landed in Edinburgh this evening.
The weather was bleak on leaving Yorkshire and we headed for Hexham as a point for getting to Hadrian’s Wall.
We were slowed down by some roadworks and stopped in Thirsk for morning tea where I ate a brilliant corn beef sandwich. Hexham for lunch was a BLT (beware unwary Australians of the untoasted BLT). Then we wound our way to Hadrian’s wall which involved walking a kilometre up a steep gravel path, dodging the obligatory school excursion before finding an amazing Roman fort and fabulous views of the wall.
We are in a beautiful self catering apartment off Leith Walk and tomorrow will start exploring Edinburgh properly.
