Gentle Annie Road

We had been sitting in the car for just over four hours and as I was thinking I could stand it no longer we drove towards Childers and saw the most magnificent sunset. It was a monstrous blaze of orange, low in the shadowy sky, hanging above the hills as we drove up to the town. The drive to and from Brisbane also allows me to pass my very favourite street sign in the whole world. Just outside Apple Tree Creek is “Gentle Annie Road”. Who gentle Annie is or was, and why she may have a road named after her, I do not know, but I think it’s wonderful.

I have also noticed this sign and thought of when it must have been a dirt track and many horses pulled wagons along it. So I always thought Gentle Annie was a horse!!

Every time I drive past it, the sign reminds me of the Gentle Annie washing machines that were out a few years ago – maybe they were named after the same someone…?

Gentle anne washing machines? I’ve never heard of these…tell me more!!!

It was just a washing machine model name in the early 90’s. I can’t remember what brand it was but I remember it got extensive TV advertising based on the fact that it was gentle and didn’t shred your clothes. My washing machine at the time had a tendency to do the latter so maybe it was the wishful thinking that made it stick in my brain…

perhaps a google search required here!
